Studio Lotus was invited to reimagine a crafts shop inside Mehrangarh Fort, working with a tight budget and strict heritage constraints. The brief demanded flexibility, better circulation, and natural cooling—all without altering the historic structure.

“Not a single hole was drilled,” says Founding Principal Ambrish Arora. Decades of lime wash were carefully removed to reveal intricate stonework. Lighting was redesigned using pressure-mounted rods and custom clamps, while a modular display system in wood and iron was floated away from the walls. Local sandstone and sheesham wood were used throughout, and a desert cooler was discreetly integrated.

Delays were inevitable working with traditional craftsmen, but the result is a space that honours the fort’s architecture—quietly respectful, yet fully functional.
